30.06.2008
Melville Rodrigues, a partner at Mayer Brown, is to join CMS Cameron McKenna LLP on 1 July 2008 as a partner in the firm’s Real Estate practice. Melville specialises in establishing real estate funds and in real estate transactions. He has considerable experience of advising property developers and investors on a broad range of real estate issues, in the UK and internationally.
“I am delighted that Melville will be joining us,” commented Edward Benzecry, Head of Real Estate at CMS Cameron McKenna. “He is well known in the industry and brings considerable experience and expertise in real estate funds. We look forward to working with Melville to expand our already strong funds practice.”
Edward Benzecry continued, “There has been an explosion in the last few years of real estate funds and they have become a very significant part of the market. Melville’s arrival is a further step in our strategy to establish a reputation in that area. There are very few law firms that can boast a real estate funds practice, and we also see significant opportunities in the growth of pan-European funds, many of which are driven from London.”
Melville Rodrigues is a regular commentator in the real estate press on legal, tax and regulatory issues. He also serves on real estate industry representative bodies, including the British Property Federation and the Association of Real Estate Funds. He lectures on the Investment Property Forum (IPF) Diploma course, and covers the structuring of real estate funds in the UK and on a cross-border basis. CMS Cameron McKenna’s multi-disciplinary funds practice is led by Head of Investment Funds, Gawain Hughes, and advises a number of the UK’s and Europe’s largest fund and asset managers on establishing funds, fund-raising, regulatory issues and on fund investment within the Real Estate, Venture Capital, Infrastructure and Alternative Fund sectors.
CMS Cameron McKenna advises on the best structures and jurisdictions to meet the particular needs of the target investors and assets, what the market standards are, and on negotiating terms with cornerstone investors. The firm structures and implements investment transactions for funds across a range of strategies and markets. The firm’s regulatory team is also highly experienced in dealing with regulatory matters and the relevant authorities.
