Internationally renowned telecoms lawyer, Chris Watson, is to join the CMS Cameron McKenna TMT team.

Chris has specialised in all aspects of international telecoms law in particular in Europe, the Middle East and the UK.

A Vice Chairman of the Communications Law Committee of the International Bar Association, he also tops directory rankings for practitioners in their field  - "Best of the UK leading individuals".  Chris Watson has been hailed as  “brilliant..... a tenacious telecoms practitioner who is particularly strong on regulatory matters” (Chambers UK, 2006).

Chris will be joining the CMS Cameron McKenna Technology, Media and Telecoms team which has, for over a year now, been led by highly-regarded intellectual property lawyer, Isabel Davies.

Isabel Davies said, “This is a great opportunity for our TMT practice.  With the convergence of technology and telecoms, having someone of Chris’ experience and calibre joining the team will enable this thriving practice to burgeon yet further.  The CMS-wide telecoms practice, is led by Jens Neitzel in Munich.  We will work closely with Jens to take advantage of our existing expertise to meet the needs of our high‑profile clients in this field across CMS.”

Jens Neitzel commented, “Chris Watson is a brilliant lawyer and has excellent expertise in telecommunication and competition law - we are very proud that Chris is joining our Telecoms team at CMS.”

The appointment is also timely in the light of the recently announced association between CMS and The Levant Lawyers which has offices in Lebanon, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Kuwait.  Chris Watson has substantial experience in the Middle East, having been involved in substantial projects in Saudia Arabia, Oman and Jordan, as well as many other Middle Eastern telecoms initiatives.

Dick Tyler, CMS Cameron McKenna’s Managing Partner, added, “I am delighted that Chris has decided to join us.  TMT is one of our key sector areas.  With the increasing speed of convergence in the TMT sector, this is an important time for us to invest in our Telecoms practice.”

CMS Cameron McKenna was among the first law firms to align themselves along industry sector lines.  The firm has eight sector groups that operate internationally.  Alongside TMT, these are Consumer Products, Lifesciences, Hotels & Leisure, Real Estate & Construction, Energy & Utilities, Infrastructure & Project Finance, and Financial Institutions and Services.
