“As well as working in the mail room, I also used to help out in the stationery department. Staff members would often request items that I knew I wouldn’t be able to order for them and I needed to be able to say ‘no’ in a diplomatic way. To help me with this, I had six one-to-one coaching sessions on ‘Getting your point across’. As this was a one-to-one course, we could focus specifically on some of the areas I found difficult, so it really was tailor-made for me.
The sessions were fortnightly which gave me plenty of opportunity to put into practice what I had just learned. Before the course, I lacked some confidence in speaking to partners, but now I’m much more self-assured when I deal with them. I knew I wanted to develop my career within the firm and this course was crucial to my getting the role last year as a Destruction Assistant.”
