New Online Privacy Code Published

Law-Now
08.07.2010

The Information Commissioner yesterday issued new guidance relating to the collection of personal data, online (the “Code”).

The Code explains how the Data Protection Act (“Act”) applies to organisations that collect information about people online and provides good practice guidance on how to comply with the Act when collecting and using personal data online.

Launching the Code yesterday, the Information Commissioner, Christopher Graham, said: “Organisations must be transparent so that consumers can make online privacy choices and see how their information will be used.”

A more detailed Law-Now on the good practice guidance set out in the Code will follow shortly.  In the meantime, you can access the full text of the Code here.

If you would like any further information on this subject or on your obligations under the Data Protection Act 1998, please let us know.
