Health and safety calendar – January 2006

The health and safety calendar highlights key dates for proposed and existing legislation and policy and closing dates for consultation papers relating to major health and safety issues in the UK and EU.

It will provide a useful tool for health and safety managers tracking new legislation to control risks and improve performance through a health and safety management system such as OHSAS 18001.

Key developments this month include:

• deadline for comments on the HSE's consultation on proposals for revised Asbestos Regulations and an Approved Code of Practice is 31^st January 2006
• from 31^st January 2006 the Railways (Accident Investigation and Reporting) Regulations 2005 will apply to the Channel Tunnel
• an HSE consultation on managing competence for safety related systems has been published and closes on 28^th February 2006
