Poland: foreign language employment contracts

Law-Now Poland
23.09.2009

New rules on mandatory language versions will now allow employment contracts to be drafted only in a foreign language (without a mandatory Polish version), as long as the employee:

  • has requested it, and
  • is a foreigner and speaks the relevant language, and
  • has been informed of the right to sign a Polish language version as well.

The legislative amendment introducing the new rules has been signed by the President and will come into force 14 days after its publication in the Journal of Laws.Employers wishing to sign an employment contract drafted only in a foreign language may need to revise their standard form employment contracts.
